Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills

Volunteers Drive our Program

Become a Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills Volunteer

Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills has existed since 1974 and continues primarily due to the dedication of more than 100 volunteers. Volunteers deliver the meals to one of the nine routes scattered throughout our delivery areas in the towns of Southern PinesPinehurstAberdeen, and Pinebluff. Typically, 90-100 meals go out every weekday and are delivered by individuals and organizations who volunteer their time and use of personal cars. Without volunteers, Meals on Wheels would not be able to exist.

Volunteers also provide a friendly greeting to every recipient, often going above and beyond delivering a hot meal. Several volunteers take recipients to doctor’s appointment, out to lunch, or simply visit longer than necessary. Meals on Wheels is proud to state that our volunteers are not just meal deliverers, but a friendly face to brighten a homebound individual’s day. Sometimes volunteers are the only human contact recipients have each weekday.

The need for volunteers is perpetual. Meals on Wheels needs volunteers on a weekly, or monthly basis and will work with individuals to fit them into our delivery schedules.

Meals on Wheels is operated under the direction of one part-time Executive Director and governed by a group of nine Board Members.
