Regular Volunteers Take Thanksgiving Off
Each year, there are several holidays that fall on weekdays: 4th of July and of course, Thanksgiving. This year, the Executive Director was able to give her regular Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills’ (MOWOS) volunteers the day off on Thanksgiving Thursday, all due to many local families, a donor, and some high schools giving their time to deliver the meals.

Michael Collozzi, a Pinehurst resident, past Meals on Wheels donor, and friend volunteered to deliver the meals for Team 1. He brought along a young neighbor and together, they drove to each recipient’s home to make sure they had a nice meal on Thanksgiving. In a followup email to Rebecca Listrom, the executive director for MOWOS, Michael wrote, “Thanks for the privilege of delivering meals for your team yesterday. It was truly a ‘feel good’ experience. So many grateful people. My wife and I would love to deliver on Christmas Day as well!”

In addition, many local families volunteered to make the deliveries, several affiliated with our local soccer club, Athletic Club of the Sandhills. The Blatz Family had 5 members willing and able to personally carry each meal to the doors of our recipients. The Melia Family counted as 6 and as they have a teenager from Pinecrest who drives, they split their efforts and covered two teams! The Butler and Rawlings Families had contacted the MOWOS office to volunteer. They both showed up with kids as well! The Rudd Family brought two teens (also Pinecrest students) and Grandpa to assist with their assigned route. All in all, it was heartwarming to see new volunteers, all taking time to give to those who are in need.
